SKYSCAPE
The Skyscape series was conceived while I was looking through an airplane window at the sea of clouds stretching below. The view outside the window evoked East Asian shanshui painting as well as the mountain landscapes of Romanticism. I became fascinated by how the soft, transient forms of clouds could be perceived as rugged mountain ranges through the conventions of landscape painting.
The Skyscape series recasts atmospheric phenomena as geological formations. By translating fluid clouds into solid terrain through graphite drawing, I seek to create indeterminate landscapes that appear to be both mountains and clouds—or perhaps neither.
